I had a year to research, map out and organize the ultimate road trip out west. The end result was a two-week adventure through 8 states, 9 National Parks, numerous National Forests, Landmarks and Scenic Byways. Don't count on this book giving you everything you need to know for a trip out west. Even if you're planning to follow the author's exact (and aggressive) itinerary, there's not enough detail to really go on. He gives a good catalog of the national parks in the region and his opinion of the ones he visits, which did help me prioritize what I wanted to get to when I go out west this year.I found his itinerary way too much to take on in one bite. I will prefer to spend a little more time taking in my destination. Not only that, I think I'll probably take a little more time getting from point A to B.The trip described is over the top to me, but that's simply a matter of opinion. It might be right up your alley. For a couple bucks, though, it's worth checking out their route and reactions to the parks. It might inform your decisions a little when you plan your own trip.
